Another key decision will come down from a Texas Longhorns target in the coming weeks, as Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic running back Bijan Robinson told 247Sports on Tuesday that he’ll announce his decision on Aug. 2. Since Robinson isn’t a big Twitter user, he’ll announce his decision on Instagram.
Robinson received his offer from Texas in early January and became a legitimate target when he took an unofficial visit for the Orange-White game in April, then took his official visit to Austin on June 21, the same weekend that head coach Tom Herman and his staff hosted top recruits for the annual pool party.
The second trip to Central Texas for the nation’s No. 22 prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, came at an important time in Robinson’s recruitment — he took an official visit to Ohio State the weekend before traveling to Texas.
And he also reportedly named Texas his leader during an Instragram Live video back in June.
However, the recruiting momentum in favor of the Longhorns that existed just a few weeks ago has dissipated in favor of the Buckeyes — the boost for Ohio State didn’t happen immediately after the trip to Columbus, but reached a pinnacle on Tuesday as a Crystal Ball pick by 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting sparked a flood of projections in favor of the Buckeyes.
So, right now it looks like Robinson would pick Ohio State if he made his choice this week, but it’s possible that something could surge again in the next three weeks, as there will be a week of contact once the dead period ends for the Texas staff to make a final pitch.
A 2,000-yard rusher in each of the last two seasons, Robinson is known for his vision, burst, and ability to make defenders miss in the open field, attributes that combine to justify his lofty ranking as the nation’s No. 4 running back and pursuit from more than 20 programs nationally.
