Report: Rockets claim Deyonta Davis off waivers from Hawks

The Houston Rockets offseason promises to be truly wild and entertaining, but it’s never a bad thing to make some small and subtle moves as well.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Rockets added some big man depth as they claimed Deyonta Davis off free agency waivers from the Atlanta Hawks.

Davis, a three year man from Michigan State, averaged four points and four rebounds in nine games with the Hawks in 2018-19. He spent the first two seasons of his career with the Memphis Grizzlies where he averaged 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 98 games including six starts. He hasn’t received much opportunity in his early career just yet.

Davis has a $1.6 million non-guaranteed contract for 2019-20. He’s a low risk flier for a Houston team that could be losing Nene this offseason. He was the 31st overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics before being moved to Memphis on draft night.
