Being 30 years old changes nothing for Texans DE J.J. Watt

Houston Texans defensive end and three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt returned to the big stage in 2018 to record 16.0 sacks and showed that he is still one of the most dominant defensive players in the NFL.

Despite the two years of injuries, and recently turning 30 years old, Watt is confident that nothing has changed with regards to his approach to the game.

“I honestly feel better now than I did the last two offseasons,” Watt told reporters Tuesday after the first day of minicamp. “So, you could say 27 felt different than 30 because I’m feeling a lot better in places this offseason than I did a couple of years ago.”

This will undoubtedly come as music to the ears of Texans fans worldwide, hoping to see more vintage Watt in 2019. And the Wisconsin native is confident that his age will not have any effect on how he prepares to play this year.

“To me, it’s all about how you take care of your body, the routine you follow and trying to do the most you can to make the most out of your opportunity,” said Watt. “I’m fortunate. It’s pretty crazy that we try to look at 30 as old in today’s NFL. I mean, it’s wild. I don’t feel old. When I train, I don’t train old, I don’t lift old. So, no, I feel pretty good and I’m looking forward to going out there and not playing old.”

The ageless wonder has defied odds in not only returning to professional football after all of his injuries but returning to his prior form. So what is there to say he can’t defy the odds yet again and continue to perform well into his thirties?
