Rumors say Houston Rockets quietly making a play for Carmelo Anthony

The New York Knicks remain unquestioned favorites to re-sign Anthony after the March hiring of the decorated Phil Jackson as team president and given the fact that only New York can offer the 29-year-old a five-year deal — one year longer than any other team — in the $130 million range.

However,  According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Houston Rockets are quietly confident that they can make moves that allows them to get in on the Carmelo Anthony bidding this summer.

Of course, this would involve trading Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin which is something the Rockets have been trying to do all season long to no avail. But should the team be able to move their salary, they very well could get in on the Melo bidding along with everyone else.

The big question is will Houston be as attractive a destination as Chicago or New York because the money may not be the main selling point when it comes to the Rockets chances.  But when you consider he’d be joining forces with arguably the NBA’s best center in Dwight Howard and the NBA’s best shooting guard in James Harden,  it’s hard to not consider where the team would be with his caliber of play.

Carmelo Anthony plays small forward and the Rockets currently have budding star Chandler Parsons in that position who may be one of the most underrated players in the league this year.  Even with this said, Carmelo would definitely be on a championship contender if he went to Houston.

This summer will be filled with plenty of NBA playoff drama, but an undercurrent to the cause for a title will be the story of where Carmelo Anthony will end up in 2014-15 and if another team can wrestle him away from the New York Knicks.

No, not Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik. It has to be Jeremy Lin, Chandler Parsons and Terrence Jones. We need Asik for one more season because he is a quality defensive Center and somewhat worth his salary.

We simply don’t need Lin nor Parsons. We can groom Isaiah Canaan better by letting him play with proven talents like Harden, Howard and Melo during a regular season while Bev is still the starting PG.

Forgot to add though, Melo cares who’s the Coach. During the offseason thus far, I read how he praised Thibbs (Bulls Coach) and compliment Greg Poppovich system. That should be something Morey should look out for. If he intends on keeping McHale, we can forget about Melo. He won’t come here and play for an unproven Coach who has no offensive system, no Coach smarts, and no defensive principals. Nothing. McHale is a complete, bonehead Ape. Get George Karl.
