The Rockets assigned rookies Isaiah Canaan and Robert Covington to their NBA Development League affiliate on Thursday, in time for Friday’s start of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers training camp.
Neither has played this season and did not travel with the team on its recent three-game road trip to continue workouts in Houston in preparation for the start of D-League camp.
Canaan, the Rockets’ 2013 second-round pick, averaged 5.5 points, 2.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds at Murray State where he was Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year.
Covington was undrafted after averaging 14.8 points and 7.4 rebounds at Tennessee State. He earned a spot on the Rockets roster in the preseason after averaging 12.4 points and five rebounds for their summer league team in Orlando.
