In the wake of all the Jimmy Butler talk, The Minnesota Timberwolves have made a huge commitment to Karl Anthony Towns contract. Towns and the Timberwolves have agreed to a five-year, $190 million super-max contract extension, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Though the $190 million figure stands out, it is contingent upon Karl Anthony Towns contract making one of the All-NBA teams next season, or winning Defensive Player of the Year or NBA MVP next season in either of the next two seasons. If he does not do that, the deal will pay him $158 million over five seasons.

Towns was the No. 1 overall pick in 2015 and is entering his fourth season in the league. He made his first All-Star team last season and was also third-team All-NBA. Players need to either win NBA MVP, DPOY or be named to one of the All-NBA teams in two of the previous three seasons to qualify for the super-max contract.

Karl Anthony Towns contract could potentially join Steph Curry, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and John Wall as the players who have signed the super-max contract. The big money committed to him also seems to mean the Timberwolves will be parting ways with Jimmy Butler.
